There are a lot of bits like this scattered around RuneScape left untouched for many years – it’d be cool if some of them were looked at each year ratherer than being a wealth of new content in 1 area alone (although this stuff is obviously cool too). Seems as the OSRS team have a different spin on quests compared to RS2, since they currently tend to focus on quests with higher production quality and a lot of repeatable post-quest content. I feel the main reason why it took more than 3 years until OSRS got its 1st quest was the way”ineffective” it had been for the little dev team to create articles you’ll only do once a account. Which have result in quest updates containing just the quest itself anymore.
Take the master pursuit Sins of the Father for example. Will we get the pursuit itself, but also lots of new, a new agility minigame and a completely different city rewards. This requires a lot of dev time. So even though there are several bare questlines in OSRS, I’m afraid it will take quite a while before we’ll be able to see the decisions of those.
As a curiosity, let us take a look. 29 quests that year, 4 of them being of master difficulty were seen by us and just 1 pursuit needed a newcomer difficulty. Yes, they had dev team back then, but still. The matter is, no notable content that is post-quest was unlocked by a lot of those 29 quests, the story and quest rewards themselves were enough. I rather want OSRS got more of these standalone quests with simple yet effective quest rewards, in between completing those big storylines that are big.
I’d be absolutely fine with quests that only included the story using xp rewards. The issue comes from monkeys that spacebar everything. Not worth the time when barely anybody cares about these to create interesting stories. I bet if they enabled quests to become repeatable with a speedrunning leaderboard and cosmetic tokens from repeating quests, so the monkeys would be clamoring for more quests.
RS3 doesn’t have leaderboards, however they do have quests with benefits. He cares deeply about his quests, although I have problems with Mod Raven. Can they give out cosmetics on the conclusion? I originally thought about tokens that could be used a store that was at pursuit cosmetic with everything. But perhaps quests could have makeup that unlock with 5, 10, and 20 completions, and a leaderboard (number of completions and speedrunning) will make it more worthwhile.
